How to Make a Clay Pot Spider
Time needed: 30 minutes
Turn a terracotta clay pot into an adorable clay pot spider that will be perfect for your Halloween decor! Use on your mantel or as a table centerpiece!
- Paint Pot Black
Turn the pot upside down and use either 2 coats of black spray paint or black acrylic paint with a foam brush to paint the pot black. If using acrylic you will most likely need 3-4 coats to get it covered well!
- Create Pipe Cleaner Legs
You can use regular pipe cleaners but I prefer these extra thick and fluffy ones for the larger pots! Cut pipe cleaners to length and Bend the pipe cleaners to create legs. Make sure you leave at least an inch or so on the end to attach to the pot.
Large fuzzy pipe cleaners: 8-inch lengths
Regular pipe cleaners: cut the 12 inch pipe cleaners at the 7 inch mark. The 7 inch length works for the 3″ pot and the remaining 5 inches work perfectly for the 2 inch pot. - Assemble the Spider Body and Legs
Using hot glue, attach the legs to the clay pot spider body. 4 on each side spaced out.
- Add Spider Face
You can decorate the face however you would like! I have provided cut files as well as outline patterns to use. You can use paint/brush or even use googly eyes (2 different sizes) for the eyes and attach with hot glue and then draw on the mouth using a white paint marker. Get Creative!
You could also add vinyl eyes and mouth using your electronic cutting machines such as a Cricut or Silhouette like I did! - Let dry and enjoy!
IF you paint the faces on, be sure to let them dry before handling them! Add them to your mantel or as a table centerpiece!
