I bet you are thinking that I lost my mind! You read that title correctly, today I am sharing Plastic Spoon Christmas Trees with you today! If you are new here, WELCOME! If you have been here for a while you might remember that I created a Chrysanthemum Clock using plastic spoons this summer! I’m kind of addicted to trying to find fun things to do with ordinary household items!
Supplies Needed:
- Plastic spoons (about 100 or so)
- Paper Mache Cone forms
- Hot glue/glue gun
- scissors
- spray paint
Start out by snipping the spoons from the handles. Next start from the bottom of the tree and begin hot gluing them around the base. Add your second layer being sure to place the second layer spoons in between the first row so they slightly overlap. Continue all the way to the top.
Next take them outside and give them some good coats of spray paint. be sure to spray from the top down and then flip them over and spray bottom up so that you get the spoons covered well.

Well, I know have a reason WHY I have been saving all those plastic spoons from takeouts, fast food meals, etc. My hubby thinks I’m nuts, but knew one day I would be able to make something with them. And YES! You did, and I am following. LOL Thanks, do love the trees, as they will be perfect for the kids room and on my desk at work.
Thanks Jaan! There is always a reason we keep things! :) Thanks so much for following!!
Hi! This is a really cute idea! Who would think?? LOL If you could find the colored spoons, you could eliminate the painting process. And a sprinkle of glitter would give it a little bling!! I liked your clock idea, too! I’ll be interested to see what else you come up with using spoons! So clever!!!
Thanks so much! I thought about the colored ones also but I needed a way to cover the paper mache cone, because it peeps out at the bottom and top…so the spray paint worked great! I can’t wait to share my next spoon idea! I hope it turns out OK! Have a great week! Thanks for stopping over!!!!
So weird! I totally thought of doing this last night, and but you beat me to it! They look even better than I imagined! ;o) Great minds think alike I guess. :o)
Great minds DO think alike Christine! :)
Why not just use colored plastic spoons?
Michael, you certainly could, you would just have to paint your cone beforehand. The spoons don’t completely cover the cone so you’d need to paint that first! I had the white spoons left over from the clock and the spray paint from other projects so I used what I had!! Thanks for stopping over!!
Cool, would it be too odd to make things like pine cones or fish too?
Pine cones would rock!!! I’m not really a fish person but I bet you could make it look awesome!!!
