Add water and sugar to a small saucepan and heat until the sugar is dissolved.
1 cup water, 1 cup granulated sugar
Remove from heat and add in the fresh ginger. Cover and steep for 20-30 minutes.

Strain the syrup to remove the soilds. Allow to cool and store in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Cocktail Instructions
Prepare your glasses, wet the rim of the glasses and roll or dip in granulated sugar on a small dish. If you have any colored sugars from decorating cookies, this adds some festiveness! Fill with ice and set aside while you mix the cocktail.
To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the whiskey, ginger syrup, grapefruit juice, and cranberry juice.
4 oz whiskey, 2 oz ginger syrup, 4 oz cranberry juice, 4 oz grapefruit juice, ice
Shake well to combine.
Divide evenly between two glasses and add extra ice if needed.
Top with orange juice.

Garnish with an orange wedge, rosemary sprig, cinnamon stick or fresh cranberries.
