Triple chocolate reindeer cake mix cookies are the perfect Christmas Cookie. With dark chocolate cake mix mixed with semisweet chocolate chips and a milk chocolate topping these rich and flavorful cookies are then decorated like our favorite reindeer gang!
Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the flat beater attachment, add the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and eggs and beat on low until mixed. You can alternatively mix everything with a rubber spatula if you do not have a mixer.
Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips using a spatula.
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Use a small cookie scoop or a spoon to drop 1 ½ tablespoon sized balls onto the lined baking sheets. Space them a few inches apart to leave room for the cookies to spread.
Bake at 350℉ for 10-12 minutes, until the tops are set and it reaches desired doneness.
Allow the cookies to cool on the pan a few minutes before transferring the cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Using a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate melting wafers in the microwave and then add about half a tablespoon of melted chocolate and carefully cover the tops of each cookie or alternately dunk the tops of the cookie in the melted chocolate. Work in small batches so that the chocolate does not dry before decorating.
Add the pretzels, nilla wafers, and eyeballs to create a reindeer. Then dab a little chocolate on top of the nilla wafer to place a red or brown M&M on for the nose. Let the chocolate set for 10 minutes before serving.
48 pieces candy eyeballs, 48 pieces mini pretzels, 24 pieces mixed red and brown M&M’s
Notes
For Reference: Some cookie scoops are sized in ounces vs. tablespoons. 2 tablespoons is equal to 1 ounce. You can use different sizes, it will just alter the servings yielded. You can use any boxed cake mix flavor you like however if you use a bigger box you will have to adjust the amount of butter used. You can use semisweet chocolate chips as the eyes if you run out of candy eyes or cannot find them in stores. I have seen them readily available in the baking section at stores like Safeway, Walmart, Kroger, and Target. If you cannot find mini pretzels, you can cut larger pretzels in half and use the half pieces as the antlers.
