In each plastic bottle, add 1/4 cup of the candy chocolate melts, one color per bottle.
Microwave in 1-minute increments, carefully squeezing bottle in-between minutes. Repeat as needed (may reduce time towards the end) until chocolate is all melted and smooth.
Place a piece of wax paper on a flat surface such as a cookie sheet or cutting board. Squeeze your chocolate in heart designs or words. Double up on the lines to make them sturdy when hardened. It also helps to add a chocolate pick to the bottom of your design to help anchor the design in the pancakes.
Allow your designs to cool. May place in the freezer to speed up the hardening process.
Valentine Pancakes
In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, salt, and baking powder. Create a well in the center of your dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, butter and vanilla. Add milk and whisk to combine.
Pour wet ingredients into the center of your dry ingredients. Slowly combine the flour from inside the center of the well until you have combined all the dry ingredients.
Separate equally into 3 small bowls, leaving a portion in the original bowl.
Add a very small amount of food coloring to one of the small bowls. ( A little goes a long way). Add a drop or two more to the next bowl and a drop or two more than the 2nd bowl to the third bowl, mixing each bowl well. You want original color, light, medium and dark colors. The large bowl will remain the original color.
Heat your electric griddle to 375 degrees F or turn on your stovetop to Medium-High for a flat skillet. Once the surface is heated, turn griddle down to 360 or stove top down to medium. Spray surface lightly with cooking spray.
Pour 1/4 up pancake batter onto the hot surface. When bubbles start to form on top, use a flat spatula to flip the pancakes. Lift pancake to check doneness on the underside and when very lightly browned (not much brown at all to reserve color) Stack on a small plate covered with a foil tent.
Repeat until all batter is used.
Plate the pancakes in a tower layering them from dark to light or light to dark to serve.
Top with whipped topping (optional but helps chocolate decoration stay put) and Chocolate decoration and enjoy!
