A few weeks ago I was asked if I’d be interested in trying out the new Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. Um….YES?!?!? Have you read my about me section???? Seriously, I am German, Irish and Catholic. That right there is the trifecta of love for adult beverages :) I was happy to participate! I have had ciders before. Mostly when we were in Ireland for my aunt and uncle’s wedding! They had ciders all over the place there. I found them to be heavy and bold, the kind of drink that you finish one, and then you are moving onto something else. I was pleasantly surprised by Michelob’s take on the cider wave.
When you first open the cap on the bottle you are greeted with a fabulous apple scent! The sweet scent falsely led me to think this cider was going to be like the rest. I took a swig and my taste buds were totally surprised! It was, indeed LIGHT! You get hints of apple, yet not overpowering. You taste sweetness, but nothing like super fruity sugary wine cooler drinks or even regular ciders for that matter! My taste buds were doing a bit of a confused dance in my mouth! Was it beer, was it wine, was it a fruity drink? Kind of a bit of all of those to tell the truth! The case itself says it can be enjoyed in the bottle or over ice…so over ice it went after my first few swigs! My husband was grilling, so I went out to join him, glass in hand. I have to say I liked it even better over ice and recommend it that way! It was sort of a happy mix between wine and light beer. I know that sounds crazy but it had the carbonation and presence of a light beer but the fruity apple and light white color made it a light version of your favorite white wine! And with only 120 calories…sign me up! Seriously! Refreshing and cold and fruity and only 120 calories! That is 1/3 less than other ciders at the bar!
Even better it is gluten free, naturally sweetened and made with hand picked apples! I have to say I was surprised! I could have another one of these, as opposed to full ciders when I was done after one! You can also visit Michelob, our awesome Sponsor’s Site, and get all the details on this fabulous new beverage! It was nice to get the hints of apple as we grilled out and sat on the patio! That’s how I enjoyed mine!
